Zenless Zone Zero pushes five attack attributes, six combat specialties, and a four-slot squad where the fourth member is a Bangboo you never directly control.
Zenless Zone Zero is an urban-fantasy action RPG with a gacha system from HoYoverse (publisher COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD.), the studio behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. The current build is version 2.8.0, released May 6, 2026, and the game runs on Android, iOS, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Steam port confirmed for Q2 2026. You play a Proxy guiding squads of three Agents through New Eridu, a last-standing city built around portals called Hollows. The pull of the game is its real-time combat: fast dodge-and-parry fights layered on top of two separate enemy meters, Daze and Anomaly Buildup, that reward timing over button mashing. As of version 2.7 the global player count crossed 50 million.

Two meters decide every fight: Daze and Anomaly Buildup
Most players who stall in endgame chase damage while ignoring the two control bars that actually open the damage window. Every enemy in Zenless Zone Zero carries a Daze meter under its HP bar and an Anomaly Buildup gauge to the right of it, and learning to fill both on schedule matters more than raw attack numbers.
Daze fills as you land hits. When it caps, the enemy enters a Stunned state, drops its guard, and takes bonus damage, which is the cue to switch in your hardest hitter and trigger a Chain Attack. The stat that fills Daze faster is Impact, and it lives almost entirely on Stun-specialty Agents. Impact adds no damage on its own, so a Stun Agent built for high Impact exists purely to shorten the gap between waves and Stun windows, a difference that becomes obvious once enemy HP pools inflate in later content.
Anomaly Buildup is the second track. Each of the five attributes inflicts its own debuff once buildup caps: Physical triggers Assault, Fire triggers Burn, Ice triggers Freeze (with Shatter on a heavy follow-up hit), Electric triggers Shock, and Ether triggers Corruption. Stack two different anomalies on the same target and you set off Disorder, a burst of bonus anomaly damage. Two stats govern this: Anomaly Mastery raises how fast you build the gauge, while Anomaly Proficiency raises the damage the debuff deals once triggered. Anomaly Agents need both, which is why their gear priorities look nothing like an Attack Agent’s.
Defense ties the loop together. A red or orange glint warns of an incoming attack, and dodging on that exact frame scores a Perfect Dodge, freezing the action briefly and opening a counter. EX Special Attacks spend the energy bar you fill during normal combat, and Ultimates spend Decibels at 3000 charge.
Five attributes, six specialties, and the Agents that define each role
The roster passed 50 playable Agents in 2026, but you only ever field three at once, so role coverage decides team strength far more than collection size. Every Agent locks into one of five attributes (Physical, Fire, Ice, Electric, Ether, with Frost and Auric Ink as newer offshoots) and one of six specialties: Attack, Stun, Anomaly, Support, Defense, and the newer Rupture line. A standard team pairs one main DPS, one Stun unit to force the Daze window, and one Support to buff the burst.
Standout Agents that show how specialties play out:
- Ellen Joe (Ice / Attack): a burst main DPS who front-loads damage during the Stun window, ideal alongside an Ice Stun partner that keeps enemies frozen.
- Hoshimi Miyabi (Frost / Anomaly): stacks Frost and Ice anomalies to trigger Shatter chains, leaning hard on Anomaly Proficiency rather than CRIT.
- Nangong Yu (Ether / Stun): breaks the usual rule by converting Anomaly Mastery directly into Impact, so she builds Daze while also feeding Ether output in Shiyu Defense.
- Dialyn (Physical / Stun): her Rock-Paper-Scissors EX combo extends enemy Stun by 2 seconds and grants up to 40% team damage, and she can fire teammate Ultimates without spending Decibels.
- Ukinami Yuzuha (Physical / Support): hands the squad up to 1,200 bonus combat ATK plus 15% team damage amplification, with a Dyeing mechanic that matches her element to teammates for faster anomaly buildup.
- Promeia (Ice / Anomaly): enters a Bound Absolution state through her EX Special that auto-triggers Perfect Dodge on incoming hits and amplifies Abloom damage when paired with another Anomaly or Support Agent.
Agents equip W-Engines (weapons) that must match their own specialty, so a Support W-Engine cannot go on an Attack Agent. Gear comes from Drive Discs, six-slot stat sets farmed mainly through Routine Cleanup at Scott Outpost, and the right disc main stats (Anomaly Mastery for anomaly builds, Impact for stunners) often matter more than the Agent’s star rank.
Bangboos act as the silent fourth member of your squad
Bangboos sit in a fourth slot you can build around but never play directly, and picking the wrong one quietly costs you a chunk of squad damage. Each Bangboo carries an Active Skill and, more importantly, a Chain Skill that fires during a Chain Attack on a Dazed enemy, extending the combo and adding its own attribute damage.
They split cleanly by role. DPS Bangboos like Officer Cui deliver the highest peak burst through an AoE Chain Attack, though the full payout relies on RNG, while Red Moccus pumps out high damage without needing Chain Attacks, which makes it strong for clearing waves but weaker on single bosses since its cooldown reduction is tied to kills. Anomaly Bangboos such as Amillion build elemental anomalies fast and stay useful regardless of team composition. Among Ice teams, the S-Rank Sharkboo summons Ice-damage torpedoes and performs best with two or more Ice Agents, lining up neatly with Lycaon’s frequent Stun-driven Chain Attacks or Ellen’s burst windows. For budget squads, the A-Rank Lucky throws a string of coins for Physical damage and Physical Anomaly buildup. The rule of thumb: match the Bangboo’s attribute and role to your main DPS rather than chasing the highest rarity.
Shiyu Defense, Deadly Assault, and Hollow Zero run the endgame
Zenless Zone Zero adds new endgame content almost every patch, and the three pillars below are where most of your Polychrome income (the pull currency) comes from after the story ends.
- Shiyu Defense: unlocks at Inter-Knot Level 20 after a Rank-Up Mission. The Critical Node format pits you against timed waves and bosses across five frontiers, with top grades locked behind clearing inside the time limit. It resets every other Friday, alternating with Deadly Assault, and rewards thousands of Polychrome plus upgrade materials.
- Deadly Assault: a set of time-limited boss battles where the bosses run at higher levels, hit harder, and gain new mechanics. Like Shiyu, it resets on a two-week cycle and rates you on a score rather than survival alone, so it rewards anomaly and DPS teams that maximize burst.
- Hollow Zero (Lost Void): the roguelike mode at Scott Outpost. You pick three Agents but start a run with only one, recruiting the others through encounters, while collecting random buffs called Resonia and fighting off the Corruption debuff that builds as you explore. Clearing zones levels your Investigation License for rewards including Polychromes, Boopons, and an exclusive Bangboo.
Lower-effort daily and weekly content fills the gaps: Routine Cleanup for Drive Discs, the HIA Club’s Combat Simulation and Expert Challenge for level-up mats, and Notorious Hunt (three free weekly runs at 60 Battery Charges each afterward) for W-Engine materials.
Version 2.8.0 New Eridan Sunset closes Season 2
Version 2.8.0, titled “New Eridan Sunset,” released May 6, 2026 and wraps up Season 2 with two new S-Rank Agents and the second half of the Epilogue main story.
The headline additions are Promeia, an Ice Anomaly Agent whose EX Special unlocks the Bound Absolution state for automatic Perfect Dodges and squad-wide Abloom amplification, and Starlight Billy, an upgraded Physical Rupture version of Billy who rides a combat motorcycle and converts all his physical damage into Sheer damage with a tankier, self-healing playstyle. The update also confirmed the Steam port for Q2 2026, the first time a HoYoverse title launches on Valve’s storefront. The prior build, version 2.7 (March 24, 2026), introduced Nangong Yu and the Electric attacker Cissia along with new Drive Discs and part one of the Epilogue.
Zenless Zone Zero MOD APK features
The MOD build of Zenless Zone Zero focuses on combat-side advantages for offline-style practice and tough endgame stages, not on currency injection. Because Polychrome, banner pulls, and account progress are stored on HoYoverse servers, the circulating MODs change client-side combat values instead: a control menu, survivability, and damage scaling.
Mod Menu
An in-game overlay lets you toggle the other MOD options on the fly during a fight, so you can flip God Mode on for a Deadly Assault boss and back off for normal Hollow Zero exploration. The menu typically sits over the HUD next to the Daze and Anomaly Buildup bars and groups the damage, defense, and invincibility switches in one panel, which avoids restarting the app to change a single value.
God Mode (Invincible)
Your active Agent stops taking damage, so a missed Perfect Dodge on a red-glint attack no longer ends a timed Shiyu Defense run. This matters most in the no-revive frontiers where your grade depends on keeping all three Agents alive, and in Lost Void runs where the Corruption debuff plus boss damage normally punishes a single slip. The stock game offers no such safety net, since survival is the core scoring metric in those modes.
Damage Multiplier
Outgoing damage scales up by a set factor, letting a single squad clear waves that would otherwise need a fully built Ellen Joe or Hoshimi Miyabi team. In stock play, beating Deadly Assault bosses inside the time limit demands maxed W-Engines, Drive Disc main stats, and Mindscape upgrades, while the multiplier lets under-leveled Agents push the same score, which is useful for clearing Shiyu Critical Node frontiers without grinding every disc set first.
Defense Multiplier
Incoming damage drops by a set factor, a softer alternative to full God Mode that keeps some risk while removing the one-shot mechanics on higher-level Deadly Assault bosses. Paired with a Support Agent like Yuzuha or Soukaku, it lets you skip the Defense-specialty slot entirely and run a third damage dealer in fights that would normally require a tank.
The table below sums up the core gaps between the stock Zenless Zone Zero and the MOD build, so you can see exactly which combat values change before downloading.
| Criteria | Stock APK | MOD APK |
|---|---|---|
| Damage output | Capped by Agent level, W-Engine, and Drive Discs | Scaled up by the Damage Multiplier |
| Incoming damage | Full, requires Perfect Dodge timing | Reduced by the Defense Multiplier |
| Survival in Shiyu / Deadly Assault | Grade tied to keeping Agents alive | God Mode keeps the active Agent invincible |
| In-fight option switching | Not available | Mod Menu overlay toggles each feature |
| Polychrome / pulls / Agents | Server-side, earned through play | Unchanged (stored on HoYoverse servers) |

Frequently asked questions
Is the Zenless Zone Zero MOD safe to use on my account?
Zenless Zone Zero is an always-online game with HoYoverse anti-cheat, and the MOD changes client-side combat values like God Mode and the Damage Multiplier. Because these readings sync against the server, using the MOD on your main account carries a real ban risk. A separate test account is the safer route if you only want to try the combat tweaks.
Does the MOD give unlimited Polychrome or free Agents?
No. Polychrome, banner pulls, Agent unlocks, and Mindscape levels all live on HoYoverse servers, so no client MOD can add them. The circulating builds only affect combat values: Mod Menu, God Mode, Damage Multiplier, and Defense Multiplier. Any version promising free Polychrome or guaranteed S-Rank pulls is misrepresenting what a client-side MOD can do.
What Android version does Zenless Zone Zero need?
The game requires Android 11.0 or higher and a fairly powerful device, since the real-time 3D combat and high-frame animation are demanding. A mid-to-high-range phone with at least 4GB of RAM handles it best, and the install plus resource download takes several gigabytes, so clear storage before installing either the stock or MOD APK.
Is Zenless Zone Zero free to play?
Yes. The full story, all five attributes, every endgame mode (Shiyu Defense, Deadly Assault, Hollow Zero), and the Bangboo system are free. Spending only speeds up pulling specific S-Rank Agents and W-Engines through the gacha banners. A patient free account can still clear Shiyu Critical Node with well-built A-Rank Agents and the standard four-star roster.
Will the New Eridan Sunset update wipe my progress?
No. Version 2.8.0 adds Promeia, Starlight Billy, and the Epilogue’s second half on top of your existing account. Your Agents, Inter-Knot Level, and Drive Discs carry over. Switching between the stock APK and a MOD build, however, does not move any progress, since the account data stays tied to your HoYoverse login rather than the installed file.
